To protect your carrara marble countertop from staining, scratching or permanent damage from harmful chemicals, you should periodically clean and seal the marble. By applying a sealer to your countertop, it will penetrate inside the marble and protect the countertop from liquids and other substances that the marble can absorb. If you follow certain steps to protect your marble countertop, you will prevent its natural elements from cracking and breaking inside, in addition to maintaining its shine and appearance.
Use a mixture of baking soda and water to clean your countertop when necessary. If you use any cleaning substance that contains acid, such as vinegar, you will break the internal compounds of the marble. Clean stains and spills from your carrara marble countertop immediately. If you do not clean the stains and spills at the moment, probably the substances penetrate completely into the marble.
Use a loofah and warm water to remove spills and stains in carrara marble countertop. If the stain is sugar based, add a few drops of liquid dish-washing detergent to your sponge and rub lightly to loosen the sugar elements. For all other food stains left after using the sponge, cover the stain with hydrogen peroxide to loosen the dirt. This process will remove all remaining elements that can penetrate the marble and cause damage.
